Maserati Trofeo - British Grand Prix
(11th July 2004)
We won at the British Grand Prix! I shared the winning 400-horsepower Maserati Coupe Cambiocorse with British television journalist Vicki Butler-Henderson at Silverstone today. The 40-minute race preceded the F1 event and, like Michael Schumacher several hours later, we got to spray champagne from the top step of the podium.
All of the cars are required to make a pit stop. We decided to stop at the last possible moment which meant that we were elevated from seventh place to the lead as leaders pitted before us. Lady luck smiled on us when a large accident forced the race to be red-flagged. The result was taken from the end of lap 13 – when we were leading.
We were presented our trophies by Maria Teresa de Filippis - the lady who raced Formula One cars in the 1950s. She enjoyed hearing that Vicki needed a special cushion so that she could reach the pedals - apparently she did the same when racing with taller drivers. Some things never change.
